Hawaii in 2000 - Maui
Hawaii in 2000 - Maui
September, 2000
(created Sat. Sep. 23, 2017)

We were married in 1999, and honeymooned in Fiji. Then, in 2000, we celebrated our first anniversary in Hawaii, six nights on Maui and five on Oahu.
On Maui we stayed at the Hyatt, which was very a nice hotel.
Awesome!
All photos captured using a 35mm camera and film.

“Haleakala Sunrise”
Haleakala is the volcano that created Maui. In Hawaiian legend / folklore, it is “the house of the sun,” where demigod Maui lasso’d the sun to slow its course across the sky.
The top of Haleakala is a National Park. You can visit it and see the sun set and also rise... with you above the clouds, for an “inverted view” with the clouds below you in stead of above you.
The drive from the hotels in Lahaina takes a while... so you’ll want to be up early to be there at least 30-45 minutes before the sun rises, and it takes a while to drive there from Lahaina. We recommend visiting on your first morning, because you will still be on “mainland time” so getting up at 2-3am Hawaii time will feel like you’re getting up regular time back home.
You can also ride a bike down Haleakala, with a “tour” from one of several different companies. We recommend it!
