Photographing After Dark

This page focuses on my photographs taken at night.

Photography, definition of:

Full Definition of PHOTOGRAPHY

Night Photography (no sufficient definition found)

: photographs taken after the sun sets and before it rises again.

While these are similar to the glowing light photographs, and while all arguably represent light glowing after dark, I present here images that represent places and/or people after dark.

As I mentioned in http://vanvooren.us/Photography/Photography_Interest.html, my interest in photography renewed in the mid-1990s, as I had some new-found evening time on my first out-of-town assignment, in Muskegon, MI.

Internet sites like

and an early article in Outdoor Photography showed me new possibilities in night time photos.

These are some of my favorite night photographs:

February, 2016

I started taking many photos when walking our family dog, Backes (yes, named for the hockey player).  Thanks to the new ProCamera v9.3, the Low Light photos are coming out great... even while walking Backes.

November, 2015

Palm Trees, lightly lit from below, at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa; we stayed next door at the Desert Springs Villas II.

July, 2015

an almost full moon... just before Blue Moon, July 2015

also called STEM Moon at STEM Camp 2015, Beaumont

(BSA / Boys Scouts of America)

While one could rightly state that these photos, containing the moon, more properly belong on the AstroPhotography page, I do present them here as the moon was a backlight to the tree’s leaves in the foreground, making them night photographs, with an astronomical component.

July 4, 2015 / Independence Day

Fair St. Louis, on Art Hill, in Forest Park

Both photos taken with the Olloclip Active Lens; the first with the 2x Telephoto, and the second with the Ultra Wide-Angle.
