AMAZING lenses for smartphone cameras

(updated Sun. June 29, 2019)

The Company

Olloclip is a company in California that makes lenses for smartphone cameras - iPhone and Samsung, and with their new Multi-Device clip, any smartphone should be able to use their lenses.

Our History with Olloclip

I have recently upgraded from the iPhone 6+ to the iPhone XS Max.  With the iPhone 6+, I very frequently used both Olloclip’s  4-in-1 lens and their Active Lens (no longer sold) for the iPhone 6+ - they provided 2x telephoto, two wide angles, and two macro lenses - and they fit in your pocket!

I captured more than 45,000 photos with the iPhone 6+, and I used the Olloclip lenses for most of them... and our daughter used them on her iPod for several thousand photos that she captured.  We used them because they extended the cameras to help us photograph so much more in wide-angle, zoom, and macro, and is why we continue to use these lenses today!

The Lenses

We have recently upgraded phones... my wife and our daughter use the iPhone XS and our son and I use the iPhone XS Max, and we have also upgraded to the new Olloclip lens systems.

Olloclip’s lenses work on multiple devices... they make clips unique to different phones and the lenses attach to the clips (with and without a phone case).  So we purchased one set of lenses and different clips for the iPhone XSs and the iPhone XS Maxes.

We have purchased the Filmer’s Kit and SuperWide Pro lens.  We then added the Slim Case and the Macro 7x + 14x Essential lens, and also the Stability Bundle.

The Filmer’s Kit comes with a Pivot video grip and four lenses... three wide-angle, one macro and one telephoto:

  1. 1.Super-Wide Essential

  2. 2.Ultra-Wide Essential

  3. 3.Fisheye Essential + 7x Macro Essential

  4. 4.Telephoto 2x

I added the SuperWide Pro lens because, while the SuperWide Essentials lens is good, the Pro is made with better glass and captures more light... this is especially good with night photos and astrophotos - the Pro lets you make better photos of the stars and planets.

The Sample Photos section, below, shows images captured with each lens.

And almost every single photos we’ve posted to Instagram uses one of Olloclip’s lenses - https://www.instagram.com/michaelvanvooren/

The Stability Bundle comes with:

  1. 1.a Pivot video grip and

  2. 2.Tripod

  3. 3.Bluetooth shutter / remote shutter / remote trigger... so you can capture an image without moving the smartphone/camera by tapping it too hard with your finger... this is especially valuable for long-exposure night photos.

Review

AWESOME!

The original Olloclip lenses we used on the iPhone 6+ and iPod were great and these new lenses perform even better... the images are sharp!  And at night, the SuperWide Pro gathers significant light... it and the Telephoto enable good astrophotograhy.

And with the Stability Bundle, Olloclip is offering other great tools that help you be a better photographer... the tripod is light and compact and flexible.  The remote trigger is indispensable for night photography, when even just the tapping of your finger on the screen trigger can wiggle the camera and make an image blur... the remove trigger lets you click and have the bluetooth connection make sure the photo is captured.

The current suite of lenses is great for wide angle, zoom and macro photography - our daughter loves to get up close in the flower and show the world what you can’t see easily with you.

The lenses are compact... and olloclip provides microfiber bags, so they fit easily in your pocket!

These are a great investment!

Thank you, Olloclip for creating such great lenses, and the tripod and remote trigger, because they open each of us to creativity capture the world around us all!

These two groups of photos show how the different Olloclip lenses capture different fields of view.

I captured these at the airport, for a work trip, and on our summer vacation to Michigan.

For our 2019 family summer vacation, we spent 10 days driving through Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.  We stayed for two days in Munising, which is the southernmost point in Lake Superior.  We enjoyed 3+ hours on Lake Superior driving our own Pontoon Boat from Seaberg Pontoon Rentals, exploring the fantastically beautiful shoreline... cliffs up to 200 feet tall along Lake Superior, part of the National Parks Service.

These images were captured of Grand Portal.
