We visited:

-Augusta, GA
-Charleston, SC
-Hilton Head Island, SC
-and we slept an overnight in both directions in Nashville, TN

And we had one of our best, most relaxing family trips... ever.

Day 7: The drive from Charleston, SC to Hilton Head Island, SC

Angel Oak

and

Sheldon Church Ruins

Andrea the concierge shared a couple places to visit on our drive to Hilton Head, and we picked two:

1.Angel Tree / Angel Oak Tree

2.Old Sheldon Church ruins

Angel Tree is an oak like the one in Hilton Head's Harbour Town, but much much much larger...

"The Angel Oak Tree is estimated to be in excess of 400-500 years old, stands 66.5 ft (20 m) tall, measures 28 ft (8.5 m) in circumference, and produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet (1,600 m2). From tip to tip Its longest branch distance is 187 ft.”

We only stayed for a bit, but were quickly and fully impressed by the size of this great tree

We four tried to see how far we could reach around the trunk - we could not reach halfway around it!!!

We drove on, toward Beaufort.

Just before turning left onto highway 21, to Beaufort and Hilton Head, we went just past and visited the Old Sheldon Church ruins.

It was still hot, even in the shade, so our patience was short, but we enjoyed seeing the tall, and some curvy, trees, many with Spanish moss, and the ruin walls themselves... and the sarcophaguses, too
