Amazing help in planning our family vacation!



A co-worker lived in Hawaii several years ago, so when it was time to plan our summer vacation to Hawaii we called him early on, for tips and pointers.  He  shared many personal insights, which were very helpful in us pick the three islands we visited - Big Island, Oahu and Kauai.  He also shared that a good resource is a set of books... "those blue covered books" - "Hawaii Revealed." 


And boy are they, and their app, helpful!


We quickly picked up copies of the three islands' editions from the library, and read through them thoroughly.  They really helped us confirm what we wanted to see - too many things.  :)


The Hawaii Revealed team is helpful, too... we contacted them about their then- upcoming phone app, which is now available... and they shared how it was going to be available in time for our trip, which meant we didn’t need to buy the paper-based books. 


As soon as we received the email announcing the app, we downloaded it... we then paid the ~$8 / edition (~$24 total) for the books.  And we're glad we did... while the paper copies are great, and their fold-out maps "just-right" on their level of detail, we wanted to cut down on weight and space in our bags, so three books on one iPad = GREAT SOLUTION!


The app is even better than the paper-based books because of the search and favorites features.  (links, below)

And click on the heart to add things to your favorites, which you can quickly reference later.


And they provide regular surf updates, in-app!


And, their support is great.  Before we left, we emailed several questions, including their recommendations on where to find good spam-based meals (you need to try at least on in Hawaii... most spam is for breakfast), horse riding and boat tours, and "best recommended" mai tais on each island.  Once you arrive, sure you'll slow down closer to "island speed," but the hours per day are still 24, so tips they share are invaluable for doing things, and for seeing what is nearby.


We were also able to get a great company for our Na Pali Coast cruise!
